Green Rev Penny War for Skateistan

Thanks to all who helped support our fund raiser for Skateistan. The team raised $408.50 which will help Skateistan provide recreation and education for children in Afghanistan and Cambodia. Follow this link to watch a short film about the Penny War fund raiser. Students worked in Forum to collect and count the change.

Team Update

Students on the Green Revolution are working hard in all academic areas. In Science class, students have continued their exploration of the human body by studying the Respiratory System. Recently, in this season of colds and the flu, students used various labs to explore the spread of pathogens in the environment, and learned how viruses travel from person to person. In English, students have started their journey through the world of ancient Greek mythology, with a particular focus on Homer’s Iliad. Mr. Kachulis, a local artist in residence, has visited the classroom to tell various stories from ancient Greece and demonstrate the oral tradition. In Social Studies, students have begun to explore the geography of Asia with an in depth focus on the Middle East region and Central Asia. Through guided library research, students became experts on one country and shared their knowledge with their peers. In Math, students are currently working on integers and rational numbers. Recently students worked on calculating such real life situations as tipping, tax, and percent of change. The team was excited by a field trip to the Umass Fine Arts Center to see a South African band called Ladysmith Black Mambazo on January 31st.

Report Cards Go Home Today

Hello Green Revolution families,

Report cards are going home today. Please ask your child for their report card, sign one copy and send it back with your child for their homeroom teacher to collect. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

School Supplies Needed

Dear Families,

It is that time of year…school supplies are dwindling quickly. In particular, students are in need of pencils, erasers and lined college ruled  paper. Please refill your child’s supply, and if you have any extra supplies, consider donating them to the team. They will be appreciated by many.

A Second Quarter Reminder

A new quarter has begun! Please remember that you can follow the links on the right side of this screen to classroom blogs and Engrade. Use our classroom blogs to see what we are covering in class, review material, and to check on homework assignments. Use Engrade to see how your child is doing in classes by looking at grades and missing work. If your child notices that they are missing an assignment, please encourage them to speak with their teachers and stay for make-up work and assistance.

November 1st Field Trip to Umass

We are very excited to go to the Umass Fine Arts Center on Thursday, November 1st to see Cirque Chinois- acrobats from the Peoples Republic of China. We will leave JFK at 9 and return in time for normal dismissal. We will be having lunch at the Franklin Dining Commons- however if your child would prefer to bring their own bagged lunch, that is fine to do as well.

Food Bank

On Friday, a representative from the Food Bank will join the Green Revolution team in an activity to explore hunger in our nation and our community. The team will be raising money on Halloween, as they trick or Treat for the Food Bank. All proceeds will go to the Food Bank.
